    Exceptional

The room was adequate in size and very comfortable. It was well appointed. The staff was quite competent and friendly. They had a loaner bicycle program that was really very nice.

There were too many add-ons to the quoted price that ran the cost to $275 per room for the two day stay.

    Exceptional

I have restored a couple of old hotels in my career and the restoration of the old Pickwick was very well done. My room was very comfortable and modern, but ample design elements of the past. I'd definitely stay there again.

I heard that some of the rooms were on the small side, buy my room had a nice sitting room and was very comfortable. Dining on-site would be nice, but there are tons of restaurants near-by.

    Fabulous

Ideal location between the Amtrak station and Gaslamp. International standard, rooms a bit small. No breakfast, but a Coffee Tree and Tea Leaves in the building.

    Good

Staff recommended Happy Hour at the attached restaurant. Food was excellent.

Room was cramped. Noise could be heard from hall, outside window and through walls.

    Superb

The atmosphere was nice, calming, & festive. Brian the hotel clerk was amazing and very helpful to us with our needs. The room was cozy, bed was comfortable.

Didn't like the mandatory $7.60 fee per night for water, coffee, and internet service. The rugs were stained.

    The valet service.

size of room. location of room at mid week. lack of ammenities (2 towels, no shower cap, etc., etc.)

  • 9.2
    Superb

The bed and bedding was top notch. I have not seen two sets of duvets at any of the other hotels that I've stayed at. Even though the room size was smaller than what I am used to, it was still comfortable considering I was the only one there.

Placement of one of the end tables was too close to the cabinet. You had to move it out of the way just so that you can open it up to use the safe. You also had to force one of the cabinet doors so hit one of the in-wall lamp shades to open it fully.

    Superb

Loved the intimate feeling of the hotel, I really dislike large hotels....... was very well appointed in terms of the room design, fabrics, ect......bed was very comfortable and liked how convenient the location was. The general look of the hotel had this same feel. My friends who recommended it to me, Tani and Loris Cohen who are friends with the owners, had told me this upfront and they were correct.

The room was way to small. I am used to this in cities like NY (where I have lived) and San Francisco, but dont think that in SD this should apply as land is not as expensive. The view of the Greyhound Bus station was not so great, but not the end of the world either. Also, for the first time ever and I have traveled extensively, the bed was too short, even for me and I am only 5 feet 3 inches tall!!!!!

    Superb

The hotel staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The hotel was clean and modern. We really enjoyed the happy hour at the restaurant downstairs, and the location was great for getting to the main attractions in the city.

The rooms were a bit small, but I had read this on other reviews and wasn't surprised. As other reviewers had also mentioned, the layout of the bathroom was a bit odd, and it did not provide much privacy.
